I was watching the new Geico "name tag" commercial recently and it dawned on me that the culmination of their advertising strategy was to show that everyone in the company from the CEO on down is an idiot. Think back to the spot where the CEO (Lets call him Andy) does a trust fall at the end. How does showing that "Andy" is out of touch with reality inspire me to buy insurance from them?Another popular spot shows "Andy" walking by the break room with a stack of new slogan ideas for the company. He begins reading them and we realize they are cliche phrases from the 50's. How does showing me that Andy's thinking is out-dated make we want to buy insurance from them?
Finally, we get to the name tag assistant wrapping the Gecko mascot up in his tag despite his protests that he doesn't need a tag to be recognized. How does showing that employee's at the lowest levels of responsibility in the company don't even know there own ad gimmick mascot inspire me to buy insurance from them?Maybe I'm just being an ass but this is really started to bug me.
